Michelle
managed to drag me away screaming and kicking to the Mediterranean for a
holiday in the sun. It was tough but somehow we managed to survive. We
were actually very lucky with our very cheap deal, ending up in the quiet
(but noise when we wanted it) resort of Pefkos. Pefkos sits nicely on the
warm Mediterranean Sea, unlike the west of the Island which is by the
Aegean. Our apartment was just a stones throw from the beach with a small restaurant
for when we didn't fancy cooking - which was every day!
We
decided to hire a car for a couple of days, and since they were doing a '3
for 2' offer with it being end of season, had three days in our little
Fiat Punto. The stroppy holiday
rep, who continually complained of complaints and begged us not to
complain about anything (unfortunately all was well so we couldn't!) gave
us a few pointers and so armed with our trusty map and guide we headed off
to get lost. We covered quite a large area in the time that we had,
missing only the very south of the Island and got lost only a couple of
times which wasn't bad for us.
The
only sad part about the holiday was the number of stray cats on the
island, many of whom were very thin or were ill in some way. Michelle
wanted to bring them all home in her suitcase but then remembered she'd
got her shopping to fit in so...
I'd
certainly recommend Rhodes for a week or two away. It's actually much
greener than you'd think for a Greek island and if you're into castles and
knights and stuff (which unfortunately Michelle isn't) then the island's
your lobster!
